The Art of the 3AM Nappy Change
There is a special kind of tiredness that only parents seem to understand.
It's 3am. The house is quiet. Your baby has finally fallen asleep — and then you realise it's time for a nappy change.
Night-time changes are part of life with a baby, but thoughtful preparation can make them considerably easier.
Keep everything within reach
The first rule of a good night-time change is simple: don't make yourself search for things while you're half asleep.
Keep nappies, wipes and anything else you regularly need close to the changing area.
A small basket or organiser can turn a collection of essentials into a single grab-and-go station.
Choose a nappy designed for the night
Night-time is when absorbency really matters.
A nappy that can't keep up with several hours of moisture can lead to leaks, damp clothing and an unnecessarily wide-awake baby.
Moss nappies feature a highly absorbent bamboo core designed to pull moisture away quickly and lock it away.
Keep the lights low
Bright lights can make it harder for everyone to settle back down.
If possible, use a soft night light during the change. You don't need to turn the whole room on just to find a wipe.
Move slowly
Night-time changes don't need to become playtime.
Keep your voice quiet, movements gentle and the routine predictable. Over time, your baby may begin to associate these quiet changes with returning to sleep.
Make the change comfortable
The material touching your baby's skin matters at every hour of the day.
Moss uses soft, plant-derived fibres close to baby's skin and avoids unnecessary ingredients such as fragrance, dyes and phthalates.
Fewer leaks, fewer interruptions
Parents testing Moss nappies reported fewer overnight leaks and longer stretches of sleep.
Of course, every baby is different. But reliable overnight absorption can remove one of the common reasons parents have to wake up for an additional change.
Give yourself some grace
Sometimes the baby will wake up anyway.
Sometimes the nappy will need changing. Sometimes you'll spend twenty minutes getting them back to sleep only for them to wake again five minutes later.
That's parenthood.
The goal isn't to make every night perfect. It's to make the difficult moments a little easier.
A soft nappy. A reliable changing station. A quiet routine.
And maybe, if you're lucky, another few hours of sleep.
